Cyclone Vegetable Delivery Update - (A bit delayed of an update...)

05 January 2019

Community in Beira

Back in April and May we made an initial delivery of vegetables and food to a refugee camp in Pemba. Shortly thereafter, I started a GoFundMe and we were able to raise monies to send our 8 ton truck to Beira and deliver vegetables as well! Firstly, I am so thankful to everyone who supported our efforts allowing us to significantly impact communities isolated after Cyclone Idai. We delivered vegetables to Beira in July and took photos of the trip! It was a resounding success.

I am sincerely apologetic for my delay in posting an update about the deliveries. We’ve been busy of course, but busy is not an excuse. I apologize for not making this post a priority sooner as I should have.

Our driver, Alves, and one of our builders, Jorge, made the delivery. Jorge is from the area and was incredibly thankful to have an opportunity to help his community and see his family. Many of our staff are from the central region and had family there were unable to contact for weeks. You could see the stress on their faces at work. Being able to do this delivery brought great joy to our team as well as the communities affected. There truly is something special about giving and simply offering a helping hand.

Below are photos of one of the offloads and the community. Please ignore the time and date stamps… The camera’s internal clock is a wee bit off and I did not think to check it before the trip. There’s a phrase I’ve shared before that I’ve become fond of: Se quer ir rapido, vai sozinho. Se quer ir longe, vai juntos. Aka – If you wish to go quickly, go alone. If you wish to go far, go together. Well, we went far; no doubt about that! One last thank you to all of those who supported our efforts whether it be with your time, spirit, inquiries, advice, or financing. We could not have done it without our networks and communities abroad as well!

Do stay tuned as I will be writing some new blogs! It has been a wild 6 months with plenty of stories to share.

With all of my heart,
Daniel
